I had the privilege and honor of volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in Roswell, Georgia for two years. As I look back on the experience of volunteering in the office for the Executive Director, and the fundraisers, and in helping with the build-out of a home in the area, I am humbled and honored that Habitat was a part of my community volunteering, and it would have not been possible to see lives changed in our community without the vision of Rosalyn and Jimmy Carter. I am honored to have been involved in a very small volunteering opportunity with the Carter's vision of providing affordable housing for everyone. I stand in solidarity with the families of Habitat who are carrying forward the vision of the Carter's dream to build better communities and a better life through home ownership.

Of all the Presidential couples we've had, none have done even half as much to make this world a better place, than President & Mrs. Carter. They are an inspiration and example to people throughout the world. So, I just wanted to say “Thank you!” My heartfelt sympathy & prayers go out to President Carter and the entire Carter family during this time of grief.

I met the former FLOTUS Mrs. Carter in the East Village part of New York in year 2013 for the 40 year celebration where she and her husband revisited a Habitat for Humanity urban building that they helped to create during the early 1980s. She waved at me from inside the van as the van began driving to Maryland. The Carters were always a cute couple.

After having worked with Habitat for Humanity, RV-Care-a-Vanners, for over 15 years we had the pleasure of doing some work requested by former President Carter and Rosalynn in Plains, Georgia, and were invited to have dinner with them at a mutual friends home along with Jeff and Laura Walker who were working with us. It was great privilege to sit at a table for a wonderful meal just like sitting down with family. He was kind enough to share with us how he got involved with Habitat for Humanity with the founder Millard Fuller.

A remarkable testimony to fidelity as a 19-year-old declared “I Do! & I Will!” in a commitment to marriage that lasted more than 77 years! Her life extended into her 10th decade as a witness to the power of love and faithfulness that endures for the benefit of generations that follow her example. May she rest in peace. I remember being at one of my first National Conferences in Atlanta - in 2017, I think. President Carter and Mrs. Carter came out onto the stage in the opening session and they were holding hands! They walked towards the lectern and Pres. Carter motioned for her to speak first. It was the sweetest thing! It was like he was saying “Ladies first!” What a wonderful couple they were!
