I remember when the Carters, including Amy came to my neighborhood on the Lower East Side in NYC. First I was impressed that they were there in rough clothes and a willingness to join us in getting our hands dirty. Before they left I was so transformed that I joined the Carter Center. I'm proud to say that I've been a member for over 20 years. I love getting the signed Christmas Cards from them.

The death of Rosalynn Carter brought back memories of 1976. It was the first time my mother discussed politics with me. I was an adolescent but she was opening my world gently. It was the first time I saw my mother as an individual other than just my mother as she explained how politics work. She was an avid reader and opened my eyes to understanding my new world. I saw her in a new light. The night Jimmy Carter won the election, I was babysitting. She called me to let me know he won the election. I felt elated. Although President Carter only served one term, he and Rosalynn remain a beacon of the ideal of the American spirit in it's truest form. HONEST, HARDWORKING, CARING, and SELFLESS SERVICE for life. God bless both of them. My mother knew good people! Thanks Mom, for showing me who I could look up to. She just knew.

I wrote and recorded a song for Habitat called “A House, A Home” that was featured in their global PSA campaign back in 2008/2009. It led to many profound Habitat experiences over the years, including the 25th Carter Work Project in New Orleans that helped build and rebuild homes from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
I got to build alongside First Lady Rosalynn Carter and her husband President Jimmy Carter. I will never forget her example. At the end of each day she walked around each homesite and manually picked up stray nails on the floor of the houses so no one would get hurt. I remember thinking to myself how inspiring she was…a former First Lady doing such a task. We all knew that 2 hrs from then she would be at a high profile event. She showed through her action that no job was too small or insignificant. She did BIG things in her life because she was humble enough to do small things too. She is an inspiration to me and her humility and grace is something I will never forget. Thank you Rosalynn. Peace.
