Jimmy Carter was the first president I voted for when I turned 18. I didn’t know much about politics but I knew he was a good man and deserving of my vote. I saw him stand up for people and for what’s right during and after his presidency was over. I became familiar with Habitat for Humanity thru my brother in law’s mother who helped bring Habitat for Humanity to Washington State. Today my granddaughter has qualified for a Habitat home. To say I’m grateful and amazed by Jimmy Carter’s life and service doesn’t seem to be enough. We lost a great one today.

I met the Carters when they were in Hollywood, Florida. I was much impressed with all the worthwhile projects that they accomplished during their lifetimes.

I dined with the President and First Lady in '92 at the Carter Center. When it was my turn to greet him in the reception line, I prognosticated, “You are going to win a Nobel Peace Prize in your lifetime because of all your great work.” He just smiled. Ten years later, the morning it actually happened, I called the Carter Center and left a voicemail to be given to him saying, “I told you so!

There is nothing better than helping those in need of a decent home to live in. Seeing their children smile and having a room for themselves are wonderful things to see. God bless the Carters and all the volunteers.

I was living in Monrovia at the time, and the main highway from the airport to town was lined with thousands of citizens and residents from many countries who were so thrilled to see an American president who had taken the time to come. It was President Carter’s influence that got me donating to Habitat for Humanity. He was a true humanitarian and will be greatly missed.

I am from Georgia, and Jimmy Carter was the first president that I voted for and I have never regretted that decision. I am so proud of him and what he accomplished throughout his life. A man of faith and a humanitarian. I'm so thankful that I was blessed with an opportunity to volunteer alongside my son with Habitat for Humanity.

As a senior citizen of our country, I have voted in every election since 1972. I proudly voted for President Carter when he ran for our highest office, and I never had a reason to regret that choice. I vividly recall news reports showcasing President Jimmy Carter’s tireless work with Habitat for Humanity in the Philippines which instilled in me a deep respect for his compassion and dedication to improving the lives of others. I first saw Jimmy Carter in Sacramento when he was running for President. He was inspiring then, and since he left office, his work for Habitat for Humanity and other humanitarian causes has continued to inspire our better angels. Inspired me to work as a volunteer for Habitat Restore. He will be so missed. RIP.

My family joined a group from the church and went to Americus to help with Habitat for Humanity and I was told that President Carter was gonna be coming through town and there was this one restaurant that he liked to come into ask how the chicken was and so I bought a meal and waited and sure enough he came in, and I was able to shake his hand. It was one of the most inspirational things in my life.

What a great loss to our country with President Carter's passing. We were honored to have been able to meet him and his wife in 2011 at a Habitat conference. We treasure that interaction.

At the age of 20, Jimmy Carter was the first President I had the privilege of voting for. He was a good man. As my Jewish peers and I would say, a real mensch. He has been reunited with his beloved Rosalynn.

I am a Republican who has voted more recently Democratic, but I did vote for President Carter because he was a committed Christian. His religion showed in all he did. I was dedicated to Habitat before I heard of President Carter, but I have been more dedicated to the organization since I knew he was also involved.

President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn were dear to my heart! Jimmy was the most honest, humble, descent President in my lifetime, living his Christian faith with integrity. It was an honor and highlight of my life working with him and Rosalynn during the week-long Habitat for Humanity building blitz in Mexico in 1990! He is now receiving his heavenly reward with Christ, Rosalynn and all the saints!

One of our greatest presidents whose commitment to America continued after his service. We have been contributing to Habitat for Humanity for years and will continue with this worthy organization.
