I'm a retired nurse who lost my husband to cancer 17 years ago. After his passing, there was a big void in my life that I needed to fill. Then I saw an ad in our local paper, looking for volunteers with our County's Habitat for Humanity affiliate. I applied. That was 15 years ago and I'm still there. Jimmy Carter was my inspiration. A remarkable human being, as was Rosalynn.

It’s not because we have several James Carters in our family that we loved him. It is because of the person he was. No president before nor since can compare to his character. My father-in-law helped start a Habitat organization and worked on over 100 houses until his passing. We met the Carters in Plains and attended his Sunday School. My mother-in-law cherished every Christmas card she received from them through the years. He and Rosalynn will be remembered well by these Carters.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant. Philippians 2:5-7
President Carter, like his Savior, did not cling to the status or privileges of his office after his presidency. Instead, he chose to serve. As a carpenter, reminiscent of Jesus, he built homes , fed the hungry, and worked tirelessly to eradicate diseases. Many presidents have left legacies of temporal achievements, but few have touched the eternal souls of men as Carter did. He stored his treasures in heaven, where they are impervious to decay and theft. His life was a testament to representing God well, embodying a true case from the HIGH and MIGHTY.
When a man dedicates himself to serving the indigent, God’s love is made visible through him. Both Jesus and President Carter set this example for us. Now it is our turn to follow, not with mere eye service, but with genuine love for God, who empowers us to do His will.
Rest in God, President Carter. Your work on earth did not go unnoticed. Though we never met, your life of humility and service brought joy to my heart. May your legacy continue to inspire many, starting with me.
A humble citizen of these United States,

I was a member of the U.S. Air Force stationed at the then Carswell Air Force Base just outside of Ft Worth, TX. In 1978, President Carter came to Ft Worth for a luncheon. Military members attended. My squadron commander chose me to attend. He stated I showed the same kindness towards other people that the President was showing. I was proud to have voted for him and enjoyed hearing him speak.

Memories of Carter's presence as President of the US brought sighs of “if only” because he was a truth-teller. He wore sweaters in the White House and put solar cells on its roof. He was a nuclear engineer and understood the threat of nuclear warfare. He used his personal kindness as a grandfather to bring two statesmen together who eventually signed a peace treaty. Before Egypt and Israel agreed to peace between their countries, we could not fly directly from Egypt to Israel. We had to travel to Jordan to get to Israel. Oh, how I wish his moral judgement was evidenced today. Yes, he was a gifted, compassionate, persistent man who raised the vocation of farming to a higher plain as well as making service to humanity a way to give attention to loving all our neighbors.

I had the immense pleasure of meeting with President Carter when I was attending school in New Hampshire. We were a small school that was probably half an hour away from Dartmouth College and this presidential candidate took the time to stop and speak with us at this tiny school. No hiding who he was. An honest, decent man who cared about all people.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of President Jimmy Carter, a true humanitarian whose life was dedicated to service, compassion, and uplifting others. My name is Jalil, a former US Army interpreter in Afghanistan. I am one of those blessed to be selected as a Habitat for Humanity homeowner—a program that stands as a testament to his remarkable dedication to helping people build better lives. President Carter’s unwavering commitment to building homes, communities, and hope has left an indelible mark on countless lives, including mine. His legacy of kindness, humility, and love for humanity will continue to inspire the world for generations to come. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in knowing the profound impact he made on so many lives. My prayers are with them during this time of great loss.

I first heard the name Jimmy Carter when I was eighteen years old living at home before I went off to college, and when November rolled around I enthusiastically voted for the man who would become the 39th President. I did not get to meet President Carter until 2017, as a volunteer in Edmonton Canada where I had the distinct honor of working alongside him during the Carter Work Project.

My ex-wife took our two kids (12&7) to a book signing for Always a Reckoning. Each one got a book and he signed them and talked to my children. They still have those books. A few years ago, we went to his center in Plains on Presidents day. He was just leaving when we got there. His story is amazing. I will never forget how the attendants openly adored and genuinely adored him.
