It was because of my respect and love for President and Mrs. Carter that I became interested in volunteering and then working for Habitat for Humanity. It is the honor of my life to work for this amazing organization that provides affordable housing in DuPage County. Thank you for all you have done for this country and around the world.

One summer, I arrived at a Habitat work site in North Philadelphia as the opening prayer was about to begin. The only empty seats were in the front row, not my favorite place. There was one woman in that row and I decided to join her. After I sat down, I realized that I had sat next to Rosalynn Carter. Jimmy came up to lead the prayer. Both of them graciously signed my copy of their book, “Everything to Gain.” I am glad that I reluctantly had chosen the front row.

Former President and Mrs. Carter were wonderful people. They shared their love with God and each other for many decades. They were an inspiration to many.

We have lost an outstanding human being! He spent a lifetime assisting others in this world. Thank you, sir!

During the 2006 India JCWP I was responsible for two homes. There were 6 Dutch builders in my crew and by the third day we were ahead of schedule. President Carter came around first thing next morning and “asked” that the Dutch men move to homes lagging behind. I obliged but my crew pushed back. Needless to say President Carter got his way and the 100 homes were completed in time, as they should!

President Jimmy Carter was a truly a remarkable leader who touched the lives of countless individuals worldwide. His warm and genuine smile inspired us to be compassionate and do good for others. He taught us that success and happiness come from hard work, integrity, and a desire to help others, rather than material possessions. Carter serves as a great role model to all, by leading by example. We will all miss him, and we express our deepest gratitude for his invaluable contributions. May he rest in peace.

I remember Mr. Jimmy Carter as my president when I was young. Watched him and First Lady Carter play their part as humans by helping others. I am proud to live 67 years this year and to have seen my president to achieve what he has for society.

President Carter existed (and still exists) as a star pointing to the true “north” for the values we should cherish: honesty, a respect for human rights, the value of every human being and the dignity that the office of president should portray and promote. He stood for all of this in every phase of his life.

I will always remember the enduring contributions of the work President Jimmy Carter made to Habitat for Humanity. His and Mrs. Carter's tireless efforts opened the eyes to many of the need for all persons to have a home. Although President Carter and Mrs. Carter participated in several builds and renovations, I feel every home has a piece of their existence. It warms my heart to know that he is at rest along side the Love of his Life and for the legacy they have left behind. What a role model for our country. His legacy with Habitat for Humanity continues every day.

President Carter was and always will be my hero. I’ve had the privilege to participate in many work projects in Africa, Asia and the U.S., most of them with Habitat for Humanity and its international arm, Global Village. One of the most impactful and life-changing of those projects was in Nepal building homes with those in need of affordable housing. It was part of a Carter Work Project to build homes in the Himalayas, near Mt. Everest. Our resources were limited to mud, rocks, water, one very rudimentary hand pick and our hands. It was physically demanding, but one of the most psychologically and emotionally rewarding experiences of my life that changed me forever. Thank you, President Carter.

President Carter was the first president I was old enough to recognize, elected when I was a year old. I remember my dad coming home after meeting with President Carter and how excited I was. I always admired his dedication to service and hope my son who was born on President Carter’s 92nd birthday will be just as dedicated to service.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Carter — thank you for your inspirational work, vision and selfless support of providing housing, an essential and ethical human necessity. Rest in peace, your work here on Earth is done and we are better people for it.

Thank you for showing the world what decency, faith, and belief in fundamental human rights looks like! My family (all US citizens) lived in Cuba and the Republic of Panama. We saw many dictators come and go through the power of revolutions or coups. Thank you for all of your good works after your Presidency! You are the shining light for all to see. I wish that more of our US politicians exhibited the character traits that you and your wonderful wife, Rosalynn, had.

Living in Americus, you are bound to run into the Carters. I remember my first encounter with Jimmy and Rosalynn. I was a starving college intern at the Rylander Theatre working backstage in the shadows, and it had been a long day working on the Symposium. President Carter waved me over to them and shared their snacks with me. I will always cherish that moment. Thank you President and Mrs. Carter.

This man's legacy is greater than 400 characters, but I pray my few thoughts may add to a wider perspective. His contributions to the world perfectly illustrate the mission Christ charged us all to follow; give freely of yourself to all in an unfiltered, unfettered love, and do so without ceasing. After 100 years, may the Lord lay rest upon him, shine His light forever on him, and grant him peace.

It was my honor and privilege to meet you on two occasions and to build with you in 2017 in Edmonton, Canada at that year's Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project. I'll never forget watching you at a home dedication hand a homeowner a Bible and then watch as you hugged that homeowner (as well as all others at the 47 homes being built!).
