I shared time with Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter during my experience with the South Africa build in 2002. I have never met such gracious and humble people. Jimmy Carter was such an inspiration as a human being and regardless of how others analyze his presidency, to me, we have never had a president who cared so much about us and the world we live in. We will truly miss his goodness in the world.

Volunteering at the Carter Build in Mishawaka, IN was a highlight of my life. It was hot that week & the Carters were working hard like everyone else. At the end of the week they signed Bibles & gave them to all new homeowners & thanked all volunteers.

Whenever the name Carter was mentioned it was always followed by an act of service for others. He not only believed in helping others, he actually went out and did it. It’s easy to say what needs to be done, but much harder to follow through. He did so without hesitation. I wish the whole world could follow his example of love, faith, and caring.

I'm so grateful to President Carter, who was president the year I was born. I have always loved him in particular, being a compassionate liberal Southerner myself, and now my family is the recipient of a Habitat home that has changed my life in ways you could never understand. He is a shining model for me of kindness & wise, compassionate action with maximum benefit. With all my heart, Sarah

Service to others and self through the avenues presented by Habitat for Humanity is food for your soul. Perhaps the former President's greatest legacy is the public's attention that he and Rosalynn brought to Habitat. In doing so, they increased the opportunity for empowerment realized by many who otherwise may not have volunteered on or purchased a Habitat home. Thanks Jimmy for your service.

He was oft criticized during his short term as President but try to show us any other with as much passion and concern for his fellow man/woman/child. Certainly not the vane “me me me” about to occupy the office now. Thank you, Jimmy and Rosalynn, for leaving a better world than you found.

The President brought attention to Habitat in the 1980s, and as a result, a core group of volunteers started a chapter in Akron, Ohio. The efforts of this group an thousands of volunteers afterward have made a difference for hundreds of families in our area and thousands of volunteers. Well done, good and and faithful servant!
