President Carter was an inspiration to all upon leaving the White House. The world is blessed that he and Rosalynn choose to champion one of the most basic needs - safe and affordable housing in their nearly 40 years of volunteerism through Habitat for Humanity. The world will little know, yet really appreciate all the things this humble couple did to serve humanity driven by their faith in the Almighty.

Jimmy Carter was a true statesman. He and his wife worked endlessly for others. I admire that they didn’t just donate to Habitat but got out there and wielded a hammer! The Carter Center established by him does amazing work. I had the chance to run into him and Rosalynn in NY City once. I was thrilled with a nod of his head towards me. I am also proud of him because I am a Southerner too. Look what can happen to a simple peanut farmer who is kind and generous to others.

President Carter was a class act in and out of the presidential office. He & Rosalynn served as excellent models of the potential within each one of us to do good; make a huge difference in this world to make it a better place in which to live by caring for one another; and how to conduct yourself and carry out this mission humbly and with the highest of character. You are gone but never forgotten!

President Carter was a good steward of the strength God gave him.
He served our country when times were tough. He was energized not by public approval but his sworn promise to lead through crisis as well as good times. He dignified the struggle of the poor by showing up to help with the job needing done. May his tribe flourish! America needs them! R.I.P. Jimmy! Well done, good and faithful servant!

I was 8 when Jimmy Carter ran for reelection. I 'voted' for him via our classroom election. As I got older I saw the striking resemblance that my father (80) has to Mr. Carter, so I grew very interested in him. I am happy that Mr. Carter had such a gigantic giving and accepting heart. I have listened to his words. I have tried to do as he suggested. And very importantly, I have made hundreds of dollars in purchases at ReStore to support his cause (and donations as well).

With Habitat, I had the opportunity to meet President Carter in Plains, Ga., eat with him and hear him teach Sunday School. What was most memorable is the ordinary way in which we could have an opportunity to talk & ask him questions & learn about his relationship with his mother. Such an ordinary encounter with a true saint is an experience that touched my life and gives me the perspective to emulate that approach with anyone I meet.

We have lost a decent, visionary, peacemaking, and great leader and humanitarian. It is sad, very sad. As President Biden stated, President Carter was “a man of great character and courage, hope and optimism.” “With his compassion and moral clarity, he worked to eradicate disease, forge peace, advance civil rights and human rights, promote free and fair elections, house the homeless, and always advocate for the least among us.” “He saved, lifted, and changed the lives of people all across the globe.” President Carter, we miss you very much and forever.

I was reminded of one of my favorite foster daughter memories.
My husband was volunteering at a house build where Carter himself would be working. We brought our foster girls along.
My husband handed one a camera. “See that man in the hat right there? That’s Jimmy Carter! Take lots of pictures of him.”
At the end of the she’d taken an entire roll of pics of Carter.
When the film was developed, we found she had taken an entire roll of pics of a man in a hat who was NOT Jimmy Carter!
I kept thinking about what must have been going through this volunteer’s mind each time he turned around & there was a girl taking his pic!
