The epitome of a true leader. He lead by example. A huge lose for our country at a time when we are lacking in true leaders like President Carter.

Working side-by-side with President and Mrs. Carter to build homes around the world are experiences I will never forget. I remember being very young watching the television and seeing a man speak and I asked who he was and my mother explained he was the president of the United States and what that meant :) This is a very fond memory of mine. I have been supporting Habitat for Humanity yearly for a while now. I’m more than happy to be able to do so to help in leading a life of service and may his legacy continue to inspire.

About five years ago, my grandson called to ask me some questions for his history class. One of the questions was, “who is your favorite president?” I told him Jimmy Carter. I truly believe he served his country to the best of his abilities, and after his presidency, he continued to serve, especially with Habitat for Humanity, which is an organization that my husband and I donate to. God bless him.

In 2002 in Cato Manor, north of Durban, President Carter together with 5000 volunteers from around the globe helped Habitat build 100 homes in 5 days. The Apartheid regime had forcibly evicted residents in 1954. President Carter was a significant participant in reversing this gross injustice. Well done good and faithful servant. We praise God for a life well lived.

My favorite memory was going to the same church as President Carter. When I was 4 years old I excitedly told my parents, “I saw Jimmy!” after Sunday School. My parents laughed and didn't quite believe me until they saw my picture taken by the Associated Press shaking his hands in the newspaper the next day! https://www.instagram.com/p/DELzkphOm8l/?igsh=MWRveWhmMG1vOHQwaA==

Habitat lost one of its greatest ambassador, and the world mourns the loss of an extraordinary humanitarian. I had the privilege of serving as the volunteer executive director of the 1988 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Atlanta. Over 1000 volunteers built 20 houses in one week, yet my fondest memory was witnessing President Carter work into the evening to finish our one laggard house in time for the finale.

I participated in an event organized by Habitat for Humanity in Seattle. The event was about building with those in need of a home. As the price of houses raise, there is not much affordable housing for new generation. It has become an issue not only for those with lower income, but for the youngsters who are the pillars of our society. Please continue the good work for our children.

My thoughts and feelings about President Jimmy Carter are not limited to any single event or encounter I may have had with this great man. I've never met him. I just remember arriving in the USA a couple of years before his election and seeing all the comments about the “peanut farmer” that clearly had a condescending connotation. When he failed to get reelected, lots of people wrote him off as a passing “fluke”, not realising that this was just an episode in a life that he, his wife, and family had dedicated to serving their country and mankind as a whole. I bow my head to a man who more than anyone else I can think of represents the AMERICA I've come to love. May his legacy inspire others to pursue the work he so diligently fulfilled until the very last moment of his glorious life! Thank you Mr. CARTER.

Some years ago when my friend Charlotte Cole told me that you could go to Jimmy Carter’s Bible Study class up in Plains. I headed up there in our pick-up truck. They had a lottery of only so many spaces for visitors so at midnight, you had to pick up a numbered ticket right in front of the church. It was summertime and the mosquitoes were bad so I parked in their parking lot and slid into the back of the covered pick-up truck and pulled the back gate shut and slept until early morning when I must’ve just used a cup of water and a toothbrush to brush my teeth and get into church! What a nice experience.🩷

President Carter’s impact on Salem County NJ HFH has been profound and lasting. When he dedicated our affiliate’s very first home in 1985, he not only marked the beginning of our journey but also set the tone for what Habitat for Humanity could achieve in Salem County. His personal involvement inspired others to join and support our mission of providing affordable housing to families in need. RIP

My wife and I were part of the Carter Work Project with Habitat in Charlotte, NC. The house our church was building was right across from where President Carter worked — and worked he did. He knew how to use power tools and help build a house. One morning, after the morning prayer, the Carters agreed to sign books, and we had a couple. President Carter went to the microphone and apologized for a delay in that Rosalynn was in the hospital with Amy. And after apologizing, President Carter personally went to the greeting line and talked with those waiting. I had a “dad to dad” conversation with the President. He was genuinely personable, honest, open and committed to helping people.
