I have idolized the Carters since I was 6 years old and had just had open heart surgery - a big deal for a kid in the 60s. I got to speak to them and shake their hand at the Georgia Press Association state conference on Jekyll Island. That respect for both of them has continued to this day, and will continue on forever. This morning, we saw a Monarch butterfly be born it is currently drying its wings before taking its first flight. I think it's no coincidence it was born the day after Mrs. Carter's passing considering her care in preserving them in Georgia.
