Laying on a bed of flowers is a light blue hardhat with the Habitat logo and a message written on the side that reads "Thank you for a lifetime of service and inspiration. We are forever grateful" signed by Habitat CEO Jonathan Reckford.

Sign our memory book: honor President Carter

We invite you to join us in remembering President Carter’s remarkable legacy. Share how President Carter has impacted you in our memory book, below.

We are honored to be just one part of the incredible differences President Carter made in the world. For more than three decades, the Carters shared their unwavering passion for helping others with Habitat for Humanity, leading the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project and tirelessly dedicating their hands and their voices toward a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Because of their devotion, President and Mrs. Carter were named as our inaugural Habitat Humanitarians, the highest honor given to champions of our mission.

I have always respected and admired President Carter. I had the privilege of meeting him one time. His care for others was always evident. I am grateful for his legacy to Habitat and appreciate the experiences I have had to work on Habitat builds. May he rest in peace and receive his reward as a good and faithful servant of God.

After retiring, I was looking for something to do and give back. When I found Habitat for Humanity on a Church service project. That was 20 years ago. I loved the mission, I love our weekly “Family” Crew, and I love the Habitat Staff. If you have not read the book “If I had a Hammer,” I would encourage you to do so. Thank you President Carter and First Lady for your support of Habitat.

He was a man who lived his faith out loud, unashamedly and unabashedly. He’s a man that I will always admire. He will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family. I’m sad that I never got to know him personally. But having read his multiple books, I feel like I have some insight into him as a person. He will be missed!

I want to thank you President Carter for being an inspiration to all Americans. You will be missed but never forgotten. Our Country is in dire need of more politicians who put the needs of the American people over their personal gains. That put their personal gains aside, and truly serve us the American people. I hope I live to see the day when we will have more politicians who will emulate your character and dedication to our Country, and do it with the grace and humility that you have demonstrated in your lifetime. Rest in Peace.

“President Carter was a treasured friend and inspiring role model who showed the world how to put faith into action. It was one of the great privileges of my life to spend time serving with him. He was a true and tireless champion of affordable housing, social justice and human rights, and while our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the lasting impact and legacy of service he leaves behind.”

Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn were earthly examples to all of us, in serving those around them, in caring for those with great needs. They both demonstrated the love, compassion, and kindness of Jesus, which is a profound example to all of us who call ourselves Christians.

Dear Mr. President,
You left this world a better place than you found it. I haven't cried for a president's loss like I have for you. I know if you'd had a second term, our world would be very different in a good way. Thank you for your service to the country and to people with your work with Habitat for Humanity. You will never be forgotten!
Thank you.

The first President I voted for at 5 years old. I learned he was a fighter for Democracy and a peanut farmer. He also was a Sunday School teacher. God bless the Carter foundation.

I was honored to hear President Carter speak at one of his early campaign stops in Syracuse, NY in 1975. He struck me then as an honest, intelligent and caring man who truly wanted to serve his country. Subsequent years have only amplified my impressions of him. Rest well, good and faithful servant.
