Habitat for Humanity Guatemala and Amway partnership benefits families in Zacapa
Amway and its Founders Crown Ambassador, Tim Foley, invest US750,000 in 43 new houses for low-income families in Guatemala.
ZACAPA, Guatemala (March 3, 2011) – Amway, a world leader in multilevel direct sales, and Tim Foley, Founders Crown Ambassador ABO (one of the highest award levels the company grants) announced their alliance with Habitat for Humanity through which they will provide decent homes to low income families in Guatemala. This is the first stage of a joint project to build houses in 10 Latin American countries where Amway operates.
In the opening ceremony, witnessed by local residents and journalists from different mass media, Amway presented a US500,000 dollars donation to Habitat for Humanity to support the construction of 43 houses in the next five years. Likewise, Tim Foley with his eFinity network contributed US250,000 dollars to the same program in Guatemala.
This program’s launch took place on February 16 to 22, time during which Habitat for Humanity, Tim Foley, Amway, its personnel and Central America ABOs got together to jointly work and thus meet the goal of building the first 12 houses in Zacapa, Guatemala.
“Inspired by an authentic team spirit and as a symbol of all those who work under a single flag with one vision, we would like to invite our ABOs to join us in our commitment of extending the Habitat for Humanity program in Latin America. And what better way to show it than helping families in need to have a decent home. Every home we build will become a token of our solidarity and commitment to the world through the Amway One By One Campaign for Children”, stated Eduardo Casas, Director of Communication and Public Relations of Amway Latin America.
Habitat for Humanity expressed its gratefulness to Amway and its ABOs for the generosity shown to Zacapa residents and it stated its commitment to manage for all Guatemalans “to live in a decent home.”
Jaime Blanco, Country Manager of Amway Guatemala, remarked that “Habitat for Humanity shares with Amway the vision of a profound change in the lives of those who are hard workers, responsible with their families and with an unbreakable spirit. With projects like these they can get opportunities to improve their lives.”
In a country where most of the population lives in poverty and extreme poverty, Amway shows its leadership and corporate citizenship once again, not only through a monetary half a million dollar contribution, but also through the volunteering of its personnel and ABOs, which will positively impact the lives of those benefited, “helping people live better lives”.
Habitat for Humanity Guatemala is devoted to fully transforming the environment of these families through volunteering activities, community involvement in housing construction, sustained development, and financial education, showing those favored a new way of thinking and a new future.
