Sustainable urban development of Topaana, Macedonia
On February 9, 2017, people had an opportunity to see the suburban neighborhood Topaana in a different light, thanks to students from the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje. As part of the cooperation with Habitat Macedonia, students developed 10 urbanization proposals for buildings and public spaces in the neighborhood.
The development of these projects was preceded by a meeting between representatives from the local community and the students, where Topaana residents highlighted the most pressing problems. Then students developed scenarios to address the problems. At the end of the presentation, which was attended by representatives of the Municipality of Cair, the municipality and the residents signed a memorandum of cooperation creating conditions for the inclusion of Topaana residents in the further urban development plans of their neighborhood.
All activities were part of Habitat Macedonia’s project “Roma Housing Rights for Sustainable Urban Development” funded by the European Union.
