Support families hit by the super typhoon in the Philippines
Recorded as the strongest storm the world has seen this year, with a category 5 super typhoon, Typhoon Haiyan has left 37 provinces in the Philippines submerged in flood and thousands of families homeless.
According to the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in its latest report, over 9.6 million Filipinos have been affected in 41 provinces. Of these, more than 430,000 are currently housed in evacuation centers. The government agency also confirmed the death of 255 individuals.
Base on the initial assessment, Habitat for Humanity Philippines is planning to help 30,000 families who need shelter repair kits to re-build their damaged houses. Further work will follow this in terms of re-building their homes as the situation settles.
In order for Habitat Philippines to help the affected families in the provinces, Habitat needs funding to cover Shelter Repair Kits. This amount can help families repair even the most heavily damaged houses. Habitat Philippines is looking to help 30,000 families in total which would require 8,550,000.
