Video: “We’re going to persevere” after hurricane in Puerto Rico
Habitat Puerto Rico executive director Amanda Silva shares the heartbreak of what has happened on the island she calls home — and the hope that Habitat’s shelter repair kits and long-term recovery work will bring to families there. “There’s not a lot of organizations that provide this type of service in Puerto Rico,” she says. “Habitat is going to be essential and provide safe and decent shelter.”
Habitat’s three-phase disaster response focuses on immediate relief, community stabilization and long-term recovery. As part of its initial response in Puerto Rico, Habitat is assembling 2,000 shelter repair kits containing supplies and tools to help families make preliminary home repairs to improve their shelter conditions.
