Around the world in 80 days with Habitat Canada
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Global Village volunteer trips being offered by Habitat Canada, 15 volunteer teams have fanned out across the globe to build homes and hope for families worldwide.
The builds began in Prince Edward Island on May 10 and are slated until the end of August, where they will finish up in the Yukon and Alberta. During those months, some 200 Habitat Canada volunteers also will build homes at 16 locations in nine countries. Through these builds, families from Canada to Chile to Cambodia will soon know the strength and stability that comes from having a safe and affordable place to live.
“Over the last 10 years, Canadian support for Habitat’s international mission has been growing by leaps and bounds,” says Rick Tait, senior director of Habitat Canada’s Global Village program. “Affiliates across the country and the over 13,000 Canadians who have volunteered on Global Village trips have come together to create a true global neighborhood.
“‘Around the world in 80 days’ is our way of celebrating 10 years of international impact and highlighting our commitment to a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”
