Constellation donates to local Habitat for Humanity organizations

ATLANTA (Oct. 27, 2020) Constellation, an Exelon company, announced today that it will provide more than $240,000 in support of four local Habitat for Humanity affiliate organizations in the U.S. through the nonprofit’s Homes, Communities Hope + You campaign. Constellation’s support, which was committed to the Habitat for Humanity regional partners prior to the pandemic, will be adapted to the areas of greatest need in each local region as Habitat for Humanity teams work to meet unprecedented needs during the pandemic.

“We are grateful for Constellation’s generous donation,” said Julie Laird Davis, vice president of corporate and cause marketing partnerships. “Their ongoing support plays a vital role in continuing to ensure Habitat homes are energy efficient for the families we serve.”

Habitat will use the grant provided by Constellation to cover temporary COVID-19-induced funding shortfalls for four local Habitat organizations: Habitat for Humanity Chicago, Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston, Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake and Houston Habitat for Humanity. The dollars are essential to supporting the organizations’ ability to continue serving families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Constellation’s support of the Homes, Communities, Hope + You campaign comes when the impact of COVID-19 has made Habitat’s work more necessary than ever. The pandemic has created substantial economic turbulence for nonprofits and exacerbated a housing crisis the nation was already facing. COVID-19 introduced significant impacts to Habitat’s operations as the nonprofit suspended much of its construction work at the onset of the pandemic to protect volunteers, staff and families. Those operational measures had financial impacts on the nonprofit, making Constellation’s direct support vital.

“Constellation is proud to stand with Habitat for Humanity in its mission to provide safe, affordable homes to families, especially during this time of unprecedented need,” said Jim McHugh, CEO, Constellation. “With one-third of Americans unsure that they can keep a roof over their head through a recession, organizations like Habitat for Humanity supply a crucial safety net for the most vulnerable members of our communities.”

Habitat’s partnership with Constellation began in 2015. Since then, Constellation employees have volunteered alongside families to build safe, affordable, energy efficient homes. In addition, Constellation has contributed more than $590,000 toward energy and home weatherization projects, which have resulted in helping families reduce energy consumption and utility costs.

About Habitat for Humanity

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
