Academy Mortgage kicks off their “25 Years of Service” initiative, Habitat for Humanity partnership

ATLANTA (Sept. 13, 2013) – Academy Mortgage, the Salt Lake-based mortgage lender, is joining Habitat for Humanity in a national partnership commemorating the company’s silver anniversary. Academy has a goal of contributing 25,000 hours of service in 2013–14 and has committed to supporting Habitat’s efforts to construct, rehabilitate or preserve affordable housing by sponsoring Habitat service projects in Salt Lake City; Atlanta; Glen Bernie, Md.; and Chandler, Ariz.

The efforts are part of Academy’s “25 Years of Service” initiative, which was designed to give greater meaning and purpose to the company’s celebration of its anniversary this year. Particular attention is being given to causes that focus on sustainable homeownership and education.

“Achieving the 25-year company milestone provides us the opportunity to give back to our communities that have been essential to our success,” said Academy President Adam Kessler. “We believe we have a responsibility to assist individuals and families in building a foundation for their future, either through our mortgage products or by rendering service to help them develop the capacity and self-reliance necessary to obtain sustainable homeownership.”

The initiative kicked off on Sept. 11, 2013, when Academy leadership participated in a community project with Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity to benefit Habitat, as well as the American Cancer Society. Volunteers helped to demolish a building that Habitat will recycle, while clearing the way for a Hope Lodge for cancer patients and their families. This event marked the largest group of Academy volunteers to be involved on one project.

“We are extremely grateful to have a partner like Academy Mortgage that shares our commitment to creating affordable housing in partnership with low-income families,” said Kymberly Wolff, senior vice president of development, Habitat for Humanity International. “Their support, both financially and through volunteer efforts, will enable us to help more families in need of decent and affordable housing have a place to call home.”
