Habitat for Humanity of Wake County hosts first Cars for Homes Milestone Build
RALEIGH (June 19, 2012) —Habitat for Humanity of Wake County hosted the first Cars for Homes Milestone Build Saturday in Raleigh, N.C. Volunteers framed a home that is being funded through proceeds from vehicles donated to Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program.
Cars for Homes, Habitat for Humanity’s national vehicle donation program, provides donors with a quick and easy process for donating cars, trucks, boats, RVs and other vehicles to help build decent, affordable shelter in local communities.
Habitat for Humanity of Wake County has raised more than 100,000 through the Cars for Homes initiative since the first donation was made to the affiliate in 2006.
“We’re very excited to be the first Habitat affiliate to host a Cars for Homes milestone build,” said Kevin Campbell, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. “The program provides a convenient way for individuals and businesses to make a tax deductible donation to their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate to help eliminate substandard housing in their community.”
The Cars for Homes program distributes revenue from the sale of donated vehicles to local Habitat affiliates based on the zip code of the donor or to Habitat programs or affiliates specified by donors. More than 1,150 Habitat affiliates nationwide and six Habitat national offices around the world have received funding from the program. To date, more than 12.5 million has been generated for affiliates through the recycling of donated vehicles.
Habitat for Humanity of Wake County was one of the first affiliates in North Carolina to promote Cars for Homes as an additional way for its supporters to donate to the affiliate.
“Recycling used or idle vehicles generates funds to help Habitat for Humanity in its mission,” said Marcia Rundle, director of the Cars for Homes Program. “We sincerely thank Wake County residents and all Cars for Homes donors for their support helping families nationwide in need of affordable housing.”
