Habitat for Humanity celebrates its 600th house in New Mexico

SANTA FE, N.M. (Feb. 22, 2012)—Habitat for Humanity of New Mexico recently put the finishing touches on its 600th home built, rehabilitated or repaired throughout the state and marked this major milestone with a commemoration ceremony led by Gov. Susana Martinez at the Capitol building rotunda.

“Habitat for Humanity has done great work for New Mexico families,” said Gov. Martinez. “This milestone is cause for celebration and an opportunity to look forward to how we can work together to make a brighter future for all New Mexicans. I offer my congratulations and gratitude to Habitat for Humanity and all of their hardworking volunteers and I look forward to celebrating even greater accomplishments with them in the future.”

Following the Capitol rotunda event, Habitat hosted an open house at the Habitat ReStore resale outlet with Steve Thomas, former host of the PBS home renovation series “This Old House” and “Renovation Nation.” Afterwards was the dedication of Habitat’s 600th home in New Mexico in the Santa Fe area community of Tierra Contenta, where Santa Fe Mayor David Coss served as the keynote speaker and Steve Thomas was the master of ceremonies.

“Congratulations to Habitat for Humanity on your 600th house in New Mexico,” said Mayor Coss. “Habitat has made a wonderful difference in the lives of 81 Santa Fe families. The city looks forward to Habitat for Humanity bringing hope to more Santa Fe families for many years to come.”

Habitat for Humanity of New Mexico achieved this milestone with the help of partner families, thousands of volunteers and several sponsors, including Hunter Douglas, Lowe’s, New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority, Schneider Electric, The Dow Chemical Company, The Home Depot Foundation, United States Government, Valspar, Wells Fargo, Whirlpool Corporation, Yale Locks & Hardware and countless others.
