Home Equals campaign
More than 1 billion people around the world live in slums and other informal settlements, and that figure continues to rise. Informal settlements have very limited access to basic services such as clean water, sanitation and electricity. The poor living conditions are a physical manifestation of inequities holding back far too many families and communities.
Habitat for Humanity and partners have launched a five-year Home Equals campaign to change policies at the local, national, an regional levels so that residents of informal settlements have a safe, secure place to call home. For example, In Malawi, Habitat for Humanity is calling for the enactment of a Disaster Risk Management bill to ensure homes are resilient to disasters in the face of climate change; In North Macedonia, we are working with Roma communities to ensure they have a voice in municipal and national-level decision-making.
With your help, we can ensure that everyone–particularly people living in informal settlements in Europe, Middle East, Africa–can have equitable access to adequate housing.
