Citi-FT Financial Education Summit to Focus on Financial Capability

BANGKOK, October 22, 2012: Research shows that only 25 percent of low-income people with access to financial services have had some sort of financial education. The percentage will be even lower for those who lack access. Now in its ninth year, the December Citi-FT Financial Education Summit in Manila will focus on financial capability as a critical life skill.

The international conference is expected to attract more than 250 delegates from sectors ranging from non-governmental organizations to government agencies to private businesses. The delegates will be exploring topics such as financial education for people at different stages of their lives, the challenge of measuring the impact of financial education and the role of multi-sector partnerships in promoting financial capability.

To be held from December 5 to 6 at Makati Shangri-La Hotel, the summit is organized by Citi Foundation, the Pearson Foundation and the Financial Times newspaper.

Citi is a key supporter of Habitat’s financial education work globally. Since 2000, the Citi Foundation has supported Habitat with more than US30 million in funding and grants, including a recent US1 million grant for microsavings in disaster-prone areas in the Asia-Pacific region, announced earlier in 2011.
