Actors In Philippines, India And Hong Kong Made Video Appeals For Support; Jet Li’s One Foundation Also Backing Habitat Initiative

BANGKOK, 10 April 2012: Celebrities are pitching in with video messages of support for Habitat for Humanity’s forthcoming Youth BUILD.
Earlier, action film star Jet Li, founder of ONE Foundation, unveiled his backing for the China leg of Habitat Youth BUILD in May. The global entertainer is one of several celebrities lending support to thousands of young Habitat volunteers who will simultaneously build houses in China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand on 12 May.
Li is expected to join Hong Kong movie star, singer and Habitat supporter Karen Mok and 250 youth volunteers building at the HFH China site in Shuiweidong village, Guangdong province.
In the Philippines, actor and singer Matteo Guidicelli is encouraging Filipinos to give back to their country. Watch it. Fellow actor and VJ Derek Ramsay talks about youth power in his appeal. In Hong Kong, Cantopop singers Kay Tse, Sherman Chung and William Chan are pledging their support to HFH China’s Youth BUILD. In his video, actor Michael Wong adds a message about why a home brings comfort with family and friends.
School teams from Hong Kong have also created videos to express “What does a home mean to you?” Three short video clips can be viewed here—“Dominos spell Home”, “Toothpicks House” and “Love Home”. Students at international or local schools in Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong are creating talks, fair booths and even a T-shirt design competition to show their support.
Habitat Youth BUILD volunteers are encouraged to tell their family and friends about their support for a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live and to help fundraise.
Leading the way on the habitatyouthbuild.org portal is fundraising team Young Adults Hong Kong, who describe themselves as a group of young adults working in different fields who want to make a difference outside of Hong Kong.
Virtual volunteers are still needed to help spread the word with their blogs, tweets, posts, ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ about the urgent need for a decent home in the Asia-Pacific region where over 500 million people live in slums and even more face inadequate housing conditions.
