HONG KONG/SHANGHAI, 28th June 2011: When it comes to fund-raising and awareness building, Habitat for Humanity China is appealing to the athletic and creative sides of its supporters.

HFH China’s Hong Kong office is organizing a charity walk on 10th July at the Disneyland Resort. HFH China is looking to attract up to 1,000 participants, each of whom will carry three plastic bricks to walk along a 4 km. route in the theme park.

At the end of the “Habitat Brick Race”, participants will use their bricks to build a symbolic house to represent Habitat’s mission of a place where everyone has a decent place to live. Each participant will donate HK500 (US64) or a team of four will contribute HK1,800. All proceeds will go toward Habitat’s projects in China. Hong Kong entertainers Aaron Kwok, Kay Tse, Karen Mok and Daniel Wu have made a short video to support Habitat and the race.

Later, on 29th July, HFH China will organize a “Golf for Charity Tournament”. Each player will pay an entry fee of at least HK3,000 (US385) or each team will pay HK12,000 for four players for the tournament to be held at the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club in Hong Kong’s Sai Kung area.

Over in Shanghai, HFH China has raised about US6,700 at its first-ever art event held at the exclusive River South Art Center.

At the “Brick-olage” Art Festival, more than 100 Habitat supporters created works of art with artists who came from local galleries such as Art Shanghai, Plum Studio, and O/V.

HFH China also introduced its latest project in Chahe village, Yunnan, where it is assisting people of the Hani ethnic group to build stronger homes and gain access to greater livelihood opportunities through eco-tourism.

Habitat’s supporters, United Family Health and Shanghai American School, made donations toward the art event and sponsorship of a home in the Chahe community.
