Homeowner Advocate - 2025-26

What will you do?
Affordable Mortgage Solutions (AMS) is the loan origination and servicing department at Habitat Metro Denver. They are the final piece in a homeowner’s partnership before they purchase their home. Over the last several years the lending process has become increasingly complex, and homeowners need additional support before they close on their home. The homeowner services AmeriCorps member will act as a liaison between applicants and AMS staff. They will serve as the main point of contact as each potential homeowner goes through the lending process. The AmeriCorps member will simplify the loan originating process for the applicant by building relationships, understanding the applicant’s challenges, and providing one on one support. The member will be encouraged to identify areas of our current process where applicants may struggle and provide feedback to AMS staff, so improvements can be made. Coordinate existing programs to recruit homeowner applicants for traditional homeownership opportunities or for expanded housing products such rehab, repair or weather revitalization.
- Research and study applicant’s data collected at the front end of the process for each future homeowner.
- Study loan origination handbook and become versed with AMS processes.
- Provide recommendations to staff on milestones where feedback from the homeowner should be collected.
- Contact the future homeowner to ensure communication from AMS is received and understood.
- Help the applicant understand what documentation is acceptable for loan processing, (e.g., paystubs, bank statements and tax returns cannot be processed through pictures taken with mobile devices).
- Assist the future homeowner in understanding deadlines and maintain ongoing communication to ensure documentation is submitted in a timely manner (not to include collecting payments or notifying homeowners of delinquent mortgage payments).
- Assist homeowners with limited technological skills in uploading financial documentation through the AMS loan origination portal.
- When necessary, recruit and engage volunteers to increase capacity in helping applicants with limited technological skills.
- Facilitate a schedule that provides timeslots for future homeowners to receive one-on-one help.
- Initiate a plan to report to leadership regarding data obtained about applicants’ satisfaction with the home buying process.
- Provide outreach support to homebuyer guides and program managers including attending community outreach events.
- Participate in the coordination and delivery of homeowner information sessions and orientations(s) when needed.
This position will focus on homeowner services and mortgage services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

- Unique projects: Streamline loan sale process for new investors. Build a campaign for targeted communications for delinquent borrowers. Support outreach efforts during information sessions and community events. Process administration support for Homebuyer Guides and Program Managers.
When will you serve?
Start dates are flexible and based on this location’s availability. Talk to the hiring manager for this position about start dates during your interview process. The start date will be 4-6 weeks from receiving an offer and no earlier than August 2025.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
