AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.
What will you do?
The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.
- Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
- Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
- Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
- Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
- Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.
This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

- Activities and attractions: Broward County is home to the City of Fort Lauderdale, a coastal community along the Atlantic Ocean. The county features some of South Florida’s finest beaches & lakes, best of all, many outdoor activities that can be enjoyed year-round, such as boating, fishing, snorkeling, paddle boarding, and kayaking, just to name a few. This sub-tropical oasis enjoys an average annual temperature of 77 degrees and an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine. To the west of the county, there is the Everglades National Park that has abundant wildlife, miles of bike trails, and spectacular sunsets. Broward County is home to a stream of arts & cultural events, concerts, live theater, museums, and sports. Broward County is neighbors with City of Miami, and within just two to three hours driving time, there lies the Florida Keys to the south, the Kennedy Space Center to the north, and the Gulf Coast to the west. These features make Broward County one of the most desirable places to live, work, and play!
- Unique projects: The AmeriCorps members will be engaged in a 76-home site development that is the largest single-family community for affordable housing in the history of Broward County. In addition, we have critical home repair projects ongoing and new home projects coming online in the area. Also, the construction of our homes is robust to the extent that they are cinder block wall construction, feature stucco veneers, hurricane impact windows, and hurricane resistant roof construction.

- Living allowance of $18,700 for approximately 10 ½ months of service.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
