The Chile earthquake, the Haiti earthquake, Typhoon Ketsana, earthquakes in Indonesia, Cyclone Nargis, Cyclone Sidr and Hurricane Felix were some of the Disaster Response efforts we worked on from 2006 to 2010.
It was 1942, and on the outskirts of the rural South Georgia town of Americus, a radical experiment began. Koinonia Farm was the culmination of the lifelong passions of farmer and biblical scholar Clarence Jordan. On that farm, among rows of pecan trees, after years of struggles caused by boycotts and persecution, the seeds for Habitat for Humanity were sown.

Jessica wasn’t ready for her time with Habitat for Humanity to end after holding the keys to the house she helped build, so she took the opportunity to continue her Habitat journey through an AmeriCorps VISTA position.
Jennifer and Olivia have peace of mind and greater financial security now that they’ve moved into affordable Habitat homes featuring solar panels installed with the support of a Whirlpool BuildBetter grant.
Everyone deserves a decent place to live, and everyone can do something today to help make that possible for another family.
Twenty-one families, including those of Eno’s and Erica and Neil’s, are building their homes as well as their hopes alongside a former U.S. president and first lady and volunteers at the 2019 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Nashville, Tennessee.
Since 2013, the U.S. Agency for International Development Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International and supported by InterAction, have sponsored select graduate students through a fellowship, helping bolster the students’ research and futures in the humanitarian shelter and settlement sector.
In all of these love stories, Habitat has played a special role in bringing couples closer through service.
