Daily update: Carter Work Project progress

In 2023, we continued the legacy of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Charlotte, North Carolina!

Future homeowners built alongside hundreds of volunteers and hosts Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood to construct 27 affordable homes in the historically significant West Charlotte area, which was once a thriving African-American neighborhood.

The week’s efforts were part of a project Habitat Charlotte Region has been working on since 2021.

  • Historical marker with information on the Plato Price School.

Carter Work Project volunteers lend a hand to the Charlotte community’s work building a thriving neighborhood at the historic site where an all-Black, segregation-era school called Plato Price stood. The once-empty lot is being transformed into an affordable, vibrant neighborhood with single-family homes, walking paths, nature areas and a community meeting space.
