Kum & Go and Habitat for Humanity celebrate 10 years of partnership
Des Moines, Iowa (July 17, 2023) — Family-owned convenience store chain Kum & Go and Habitat for Humanity International are celebrating their 10th year of partnership and the completion of their 2023 cause marketing campaign, which raised more than $547,000 for the global housing nonprofit.
“Working with Habitat for Humanity these past 10 years has been an extremely meaningful experience,” said Emily Bahnsen, community investment manager at Kum & Go. “Not only have we been able to provide significant financial support, but we’ve been able to raise awareness about the need for safe, affordable housing and educate our associates and customers about an organization who is dedicated to making a difference in their local communities.”
During the month of April, more than 400 Kum & Go locations engaged store associates and encouraged customers to donate to Habitat at checkout. Additionally, Kum & Go donated 10 cents from every 20 oz. K&G bottle of water purchased to Habitat. Along with in-store efforts, Kum & Go sponsored Habitat for Humanity’s Home is the Key national cause marketing campaign. On April 22, Earth Day, store associates and leadership volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Detroit to build and improve homes in the Morningside neighborhood.
“This has been a monumental year for our partnership with Kum & Go,” said Tolli Love, chief development officer, Habitat for Humanity International. “We are so grateful for all the support they have given – from employee volunteer opportunities to supporting our Home is the Key campaign, and we are thrilled to celebrate 10 years of working together to build homes, communities and hope. We look forward to the continuation of our partnership.”
Throughout May and June, Kum & Go partnered with local Habitat for Humanity affiliates to build affordable homes in the communities they serve. The company sponsored two home builds in Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity’s Field of Dreams neighborhood as well as an energy-efficient home with Habitat for Humanity of Kent County in the Baxter neighborhood. Their 10th home sponsorship will be in partnership with Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity in Colorado Springs, Colorado, later this year.
Since 2014, Kum & Go and Habitat have worked together to build decent and affordable homes in communities across the U.S. Over the past 10 years, Kum & Go has raised more than $5.6 million for Habitat for Humanity and has sponsored home builds with local Habitat affiliates in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah, Michigan and Colorado.
About Habitat for Humanity
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity found its earliest inspirations as a grassroots movement on an interracial community farm in south Georgia. Since its founding in 1976, the Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
