J.M. Huber Corporation continues partnership with Habitat for Humanity, announces commitment to increase equitable access to affordable homeownership across the U.S.
ATLANTA (October 24, 2022) — J.M. Huber Corporation, a global manufacturer of engineered materials that serves a broad range of industries, announced today it is renewing its partnership with Habitat for Humanity International.
As part of the expanded commitment, Huber will donate $528,000 in funding to support Habitat’s mission. The firm will also fully fund two house builds in locations where Huber operates: one in partnership with Loudon County Habitat for Humanity in Lenoir City, Tennessee, and another with Mark Twain Area Habitat for Humanity in Hannibal, Missouri. Separately, Huber will continue its second year of a $250,000 product donation to Habitat affiliates, which includes Huber Engineered Woods roof sheathing, wall and floor products.
“We are thrilled to continue to broaden Huber’s support of Habitat’s mission to impact the lives of people around the world by making safe and affordable housing more accessible to those in need,” said Don Young, Huber’s EVP and chief sustainability officer. “Through our cash and product donations, but more importantly through providing our employees volunteer opportunities to do good in the communities where they live and work, we are fulfilling our purpose of improving the world today for a better tomorrow, one home at a time.”
The renewal of Huber’s partnership with Habitat also includes a new strategic focus for this year. Huber is supporting Green Country Habitat for Humanity’s North Tulsa Initiative. Through the initiative, the affiliate aims to build 250 affordable homes over the next five to seven years, prioritize the advancement of black homeownership in the Tulsa community, and help close the racial wealth gap in Oklahoma. As a Transformational Sponsor, Huber will fund the organization’s next neighborhood revitalization project: Black Wall Street Square, a 24-unit, $6 million townhome development that will be located in the historic Dunbar neighborhood, which was set afire by armed white residents during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Huber is also donating AdvanTech® and ZIPSystem® products needed to complete the project. Construction is expected to begin in early 2023.
The North Tulsa Initiative sponsorship further demonstrates Huber’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and reflects its Huber Principles in action. Through the Huber Helps program, the firm has expanded its partnership with Habitat into a global initiative that creates meaningful community engagement for employees and makes annual investments to support Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
“Habitat for Humanity believes in a world where everyone deserves to have a safe and decent place to call home,” said Habitat for Humanity International’s Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Natosha Reid Rice. “We are honored to have partners like J.M. Huber Corporation that share both our mission and commitment to build safe and affordable homes, strengthen community, increase equity and inspire hope. We are grateful for Huber’s continued partnership this year.”
About Habitat for Humanity
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity found its earliest inspirations as a grassroots movement on an interracial community farm in south Georgia. Since its founding in 1976, the Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S., Puerto Rico and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
