The torrential rains of Hurricane Harvey created unprecedented flooding in southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana. The extensive damage in towns all along the Texas/Louisiana coast ensure that Harvey will be one of the costliest storms ever to strike the United States.

The storm’s greatest costs are for the tens of thousands of families like Rosalinda’s. The floodwaters have left no part of their lives untouched, and they now face an uncertain future as their homes have either been damaged or destroyed.

Homes that once were safe havens are now unrecognizable. Some families have begun the arduous, heartbreaking clean-up. Others still face that daunting task.

Furnishings, mementos, children’s toys — much if not all of what these families own — now join the huge piles of debris lining their streets.

Habitat for Humanity partners with those affected by disasters like Harvey, and we are on the ground now, offering families a pathway back to the permanence they once knew.
