University of Minnesota Habitat for Humanity named Campus Chapter of the Year

ATLANTA (Oct. 19, 2012) — The University of Minnesota Habitat for Humanity has been named the Campus Chapter of the Year. Habitat for Humanity International and State Farm, the sponsor of Habitat’s youth programs, present the award annually to exceptional campus chapters.

The University of Minnesota Habitat was selected for demonstrating outstanding advocacy efforts and partnership with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. The chapter will receive a 4,500 grant from State Farm to use to construct houses during a Habitat school break trip or to use locally.

“Habitat for Humanity campus chapters play an important role in Habitat’s mission to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope,” said Cody Logsdon, Habitat for Humanity International youth programs manager. “We congratulate the University of Minnesota Habitat for their dedication and commitment to helping families in need.”

Habitat campus chapters are student-led organizations found on high school or college campuses nationwide that partner with local Habitat affiliates to volunteer, raise funds, advocate for affordable housing and educate local communities about Habitat’s mission.

“State Farm is committed to building safer, stronger and better educated communities,” said Michael Rossman, State Farm public affairs specialist. “We are proud to present this award with Habitat for Humanity to The University of Minnesota Habitat.”

In addition to the ongoing support State Farm offices provide to local Habitat affiliates across the United States, State Farm has served as the national corporate sponsor of Habitat for Humanity’s youth programs since 2007.

Habitat’s campus chapters at Rice University and the University of Virginia received honorable mentions and were presented with 1,000 grants. Currently, there are more than 400 Habitat for Humanity campus chapters across the country.
