Where does Habitat for Humanity build houses?

Habitat has an active presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, including Colombia, where we’ve served more than 3,500 families through housing solutions, business loans and educational programs since 1991.

The largest country in South America, Brazil presents housing challenges for millions, from overcrowding to access to water to ownership rights for vulnerable groups.

Based on one Kenyan census, there are as many as 750,000 rural households and 1,500,000 urban households in need of housing in the eastern African country. Habitat Kenya began building in 1982 and offers financial education and microfinance opportunities.

Thanks to the support of individual supporters and key donors and partners including UN-Habitat, the World Bank and Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, Habitat Haiti’s work has benefitted thousands of residents since the 2010 earthquake.

Home to eight of the 10 tallest mountains in the world, Nepal is a popular destination for Habitat Global Village trips and international volunteers.

In Bulgaria, Habitat works to improve the country’s aging housing stock with energy-efficient upgrades, microfinance loans and financial training.

Official studies highlight the depth of housing need in the Dominican Republic. The majority of the island nation’s housing deficit is due to the existence of poor quality shelter. Habitat Dominican Republic has helped for 25 years.

Habitat Jordan works to relieve a housing crisis brought on by continued migration to cities and a high level of urban poverty.

Habitat builds in all 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Some 5 million Americans face severe housing needs.
