Women Build
Coming together to build stronger, safer communities
Since 1991, Habitat’s Women Build volunteers have come together from all walks of life to build stronger, safer communities. Women Build opportunities are available across the U.S., and any woman or person who wants to learn how to build or repair a home is invited to join.
Women and children are the most likely to be affected by poor living conditions, and these events provide the opportunity for women to take a proactive step in serving their communities.
Women Build is also a terrific way to involve your friends and family of all ages in crucial work with a lasting impact. You can also come alone and make new friends; the atmosphere is collaborative and friendly!

Frequently asked questions
-
Yes, men are welcome. While Women Build is focused on the inclusion of women in the work of building homes, the initiative does not exclude volunteers of any gender or gender identity, nor does it allow discrimination of any kind. Local organizations are encouraged to recruit a diverse volunteer workforce for home builds and virtual engagements.
-
No experience necessary. Volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Whether you are learning new skills or simply adding a few to your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for all involved, and it improves the community that you share.
-
Yes, even though ownership and property rights for women can be particularly challenging in some countries. Through Women Build, we can increase our advocacy efforts on these important issues, while collecting valuable information that demonstrates the many benefits of female ownership. We are also partnering with several nongovernmental organizations to assist in teaching women how to use their voice. Learn more about our international work.
-
Our goal is to empower women to help families build strength, stability and independence. At Habitat, we have the ability to provide opportunities for hands-on learning, and, when offered these tools, women can succeed in changing their communities.
