A floor equals resilience
The impact of concrete floors on the lives of families in Latin America and the Caribbean
To generate greater evidence to demonstrate the benefits of concrete floors on people’s quality of life, Habitat for Humanity prepared this report based on the findings of three impact assessments conducted in our region: a quantitative impact assessment in the Dominican Republic and two qualitative assessments in Nicaragua and Guatemala.
The study demonstrates the impact of concrete floor construction on economic development, health and well-being, school absenteeism, and indoor playtime. The measurements taken and the approximation of the impact of the “100,000 floors to play on” initiative demonstrate that those who received a concrete floor achieved greater resilience and better coped with challenges in adverse contexts such as flooding due to excessive rainfall, tropical storms, dengue fever, or inflation, compared to those who never received one.
