HFH China garners best charity organization award

Traits such as sustainability and innovation including “Go Bag Home” charity fundraising campaign contributed to win

HONG KONG (January 30, 2014) — In January, Habitat for Humanity China was among nine organizations which received the “best charity organization” award at an event organized by China’s mass media in Beijing.

HFH China won the award for meeting the criteria of being a pioneer in public affairs; sustainability; innovation; adaptability and trustworthiness.

The third China Charity Festival aims to provide a platform for the government, business, academic and non-profit sectors and the media to interact and contribute to doing good.

Since 2000, HFH China has helped more than 3,600 families to build, repair or rehabilitate their homes. Of these, more than 1,400 families in Sichuan province rebuilt their homes with Habitat following the May 2008 earthquake.

HFH China stepped up to assist disaster-hit families in Sichuan following an earthquake in April 2013. Habitat’s staff and volunteers distributed essential items such as quilts and cooking oil to 6,335 families in 45 villages in affected Qionglai city.

Habitat’s other offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan help low-income families to build homes and hope. In Hong Kong, the Habitat office not only mobilizes volunteers but also raises funds through campaigns such as “Go Bag Home”. Now in its second year, the “Go Bag Home” fundraising campaign has expanded into China after its Hong Kong debut.

In January 2014, “Go Bag Home” was launched in Shanghai by HFH China’s Build Ambassador and singer Kay Tse. Join the ranks of HFH China’s Build Ambassadors and Hong Kong singers/actresses Karen Mok and Jade Kwan as well as Chinese actresses Fan Bingbing and Tong Liya to donate pre-loved designer handbags for charity bids.

Habitat supporters can choose to donate half or more of each bag’s proceeds toward HFH China’s rebuilding effort in Sichuan province following the April 2013 earthquake.
