BANDUNG, 25th October 2011: Sixty-five volunteers from Singapore-headquartered OCBC helped Habitat for Humanity to repair a school in Indonesia.

The school, SMP 2 Mei, is in Bandung regency, West Java province, a four-hour ride from the capital of Jakarta.

The volunteers came from the bank’s offices in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The volunteers dug the foundations for a new toilet, moved gravel, bricks and sand for new walls, and leveled out the ground for a new courtyard.

Many of the students and teachers stayed on after school to join the volunteers in moving bricks.

A partner of HFH Singapore since 2008, OCBC is funding 20 houses in Bandung. Twelve of the houses have been completed in Banjaran and Pangelengan subdistricts while another eight are currently being built.

The bank has also been sending staff on Habitat builds in the Indonesian city since 2009.
