Return to Fiji Highlands after Four-Year Absence * * * * Japanese English Teachers Restart Building Work
May 17, 2005
SUVA, 17th May 2005: A group of English teachers from Japan have helped restart building work in the Fijian highlands; four years after HFH Fiji and its Vanuaca affiliate were forced to halt building programs because of repayment arrears.
The last time Vanuaca hosted a Global Village team was in 2001, when 10 homes were constructed during the six-day Millennium Build.
In early May, the 13-member JET Global Village group from Sendai, Japan, built a house in four days in the village of Nakorovatu in Naitasiri province.
The new homeowners, Kila and his family, were previously living in a squatter settlement just outside the Fijian capital of Suva.
