Global Foundations, Organizations and Institutions (US) Intern
We are Habitat
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a global non-profit whose mission is to ensure everyone has a safe and decent place in which to live. Formed in 1976, HFHI operates in 70 countries around the world, and implements a range of programs that provide direct improvement in housing conditions to households and communities; influence housing policies and market systems; and raise awareness of the critical linkages between housing conditions and broader human development dimensions.
Habitat for Humanity’s current international program framework has identified rapid urbanization as a key driver of the global housing deficit. As such, the organization is assessing the extent and diversity of its urban programs and developing guidelines, frameworks, and tools aiming at increasing the scale, appropriateness, and quality of urban programming. The different models of intervention in urban areas across HFHI’s global network range from direct work in low-income urban communities and informal settlements, to influencing urban policies, urban and land use planning, and market approaches that enable affordable and adequate urban housing and contribute to sustainable and inclusive urban development.
The Global Foundations, Organizations, and Institutions (GFOI) Team prioritizes fundraising efforts on professional foundations, bi- and multi-lateral institutions – all recognized as partners and donors with significant assets of $100 million+. These institutional partners have high quality designated staff and strategic program priorities with strict guidelines and restrictions on proposal development, grant execution and reporting.
The GFOI team is part of the Integrated Programs department, which envisions an interdependent global network that creates deep and lasting impact and demonstrates strong stewardship of HFHI’s relationships and funding to eliminate the systemic inequities and meaningfully address the housing deficit. GFOI also works closely with the Resource Development (RD) Department on its focus on strategic fundraising to support Habitat’s mission and vision.

About Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity, founded in 1976, is a global, Christian-based nonprofit organization that grew out of an intentionally multi-racial community in rural Georgia. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat brings together people of all faiths and people of no faith to build homes, communities and hope. Working alongside each other, we help families and individuals build and improve places to call home and achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Habitat seeks individuals who have a willingness to affirm these principles and values.
At Habitat for Humanity International, we embrace a history rooted in creating equity and take our mission seriously by courageously committing to a culture and workplace where all staff feel safe, welcome, visible, respected, supported and valued. As an equal opportunity employer, we realize that our success depends upon building an inclusive workforce of diverse perspectives and encourage people of varied races (which is inclusive of traits historically associated with race, including, but not limited to, protective hairstyles and hair texture), ethnicities, national origins, tribes, religions, ages, gender identities and expressions, genders, sexual orientations, marital statuses, disabilities, veteran/reserve national guard statuses, socio-economic statuses, thinking and communication styles to work with us.
We also require that all staff take seriously their ethical responsibilities to safeguarding our intended beneficiaries, their communities (especially children), and all those with whom we work. In line with the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, all staff must pass a thorough background screening and will be held accountable to upholding our policies around ethical behavior, including safeguarding and whistleblowing.
