AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

  • Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction, brand management, home repair, neighborhood revitalization, research, monitoring, and/or evaluation, virtual/digital systems and platforms, and volunteer services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: More than just saguaros and Sonoran hot dogs, Tucson, AZ is a cultural and natural hub where visitors can experience the Southwest as it was meant to be. In the heart of the Sonoran Desert, Tucson offers a modern perspective of the old west. The city is home to a wide range of museums, historic sites, hiking trails, golf courses, and some of the most unique flora and fauna in the world, giving visitors plenty to do during their visit. From our gardens and zoos to our museums and university campus, Tucson’s unique beauty shines through our wide range of attractions and our vibrant downtown districts.
  • Unique projects: Construction crew leaders will experience how our Habitat organization specializes in creating panelized walls for construction to increase our housing production. The CHUCK Center introduces innovations in design to provide housing solutions for Habitat homes and holds the potential for rapid deployment of small/tiny homes and accessory dwelling units resulting in more homes and serving more families. The CHUCK will utilize modular prefabrication of exterior wall panels. The prefabrication program will make it easier for volunteers to build while improving pace, volume, cost and minimizing waste or offsite storage. The CHUCK Center brings together local industries, educational institutions, expert volunteers, and strong financial support to create a significant shift that will allow Habitat Tucson to offer a “hand up” to more families, removing barriers to opportunity. We will also focus on tiny homes, small homes, sheds, and shared wall homes.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
