Construction Systems

Construction systems development VISTA members create, document and implement plans to improve construction operations at their local Habitat. As a construction systems development VISTA, you will explore the construction processes and systems currently in place and identify best practices and areas for improvement. You will develop and implement an enhanced construction operations plan that addresses preparation, planning, scheduling, home repairs, green building techniques and work site safety, as well as any other areas identified during the exploration phase. Testing, evaluation and revision of the program is required to promote success and you will be expected to develop manuals and training for staff to ensure sustainability of the program after completion of your VISTA term.

Required Qualifications:

• 18 years of age or older
• U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
• High school diploma or GED equivalent (or agree to work towards one while serving)
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet host site’s insurance requirements

• Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong research skills
• Detail oriented and highly organized
• Experience working as a member of a team
• Project management experience

Benefits of Service:

• Living allowance of $21,622.60 (paid over 1 year of full-time service) – determined by geographic area
• Education award of $6,095 or end-of-service stipend of $1,800
• Possible forbearance of qualified student loans
• Healthcare allowance available to cover out-of-pocket costs or eligibility for enrollment in a health benefit plan

Our AmeriCorps members will play an integral role in providing leadership on our project sites, engaging volunteers to become champions for our mission, and creating new tools and systems to build capacity. Our members are the ambassadors of Habitat Snohomish, interacting with our current volunteers, partner families and community stakeholders as well as establishing new relationships on behalf of our organization. During a year of service with Habitat Snohomish, AmeriCorps members gain insight to the inner workings of a non-profit organization and gain hands-on experience in leadership, public speaking and community development. In your off hours, hike the wilderness of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker and the Cascades, explore the rainforests and beaches of Olympic National Park, spend time on the Washington State Ferries in Puget Sound and enjoy the exciting city of Seattle, which includes a thriving art and music scene. Enjoy the Seattle sports experience with the well-renowned Seattle sports fans such as the 12th Man or enjoy the thriving food and craft-beverage industry in the Pacific Northwest.
